Don’t change climate – educate youth

We are happy to announce that the environmental educational project for young generation “Don’t change climate – educate youth”, was recently launched due to the joint efforts of the NGO “Eco-play”, European Wilderness Society and Carpathian National Nature Park (Ukraine). The Project is funded by the Embassy of Australia in Ukraine through the Direct Aid Program.

The project objective is to enhance sustainability through protecting the environment, introducing and applying effective environmental education tools, promoting outdoor activities and raising awareness about nature heritage and climate change effects.

Main activities within the project are:

  1. Developing of educational materials for children about environment protection including issues of sustainable development, climate change, national parks, reducing garbage, volunteerism, wilderness, eco-tourism;
  2. Educational outdoor tables promoting “leave no trace” concept (reducing of garbage, particularly in nature);
  3. Leaflet about ecological activities in the Carpathian National Nature Park;
  4. Table game “Travel through Carpathian National Nature Park”, including elements of available tourism eco-trails of Carpathian National Nature Park;
  5.  Conducting a training-presentation of the module and developed educational materials, an excursion to the nature-discovery trail “To the Huk Waterfall”.

Carpathian National Nature Park suffered several times from the floods – well-known effects of climate change. Even one of its famous places of interest and popular tourist attraction – the Huk Waterfall, was created due to the intensive flood in 1696. The trail to the Huk Waterfall is also a good example for researching and studying the impact of climate change on the ecosystems. Due to variety of natural landscapes, unique outcrops, flora and fauna diversity the trail to the Huk-Waterfall is widely used by teachers, schoolchildren, students and researchers from local schools as well  as from other regions of Ukraine for ecological education and scientific purposes.

This project will contribute to the education of the families and particularly children, surrounding and visiting the Carpathian National Nature Park on environmental, including wilderness issue and will propose effective educational tools for environmental educators.
