For their last week, the Dutch filmmaker team composed of Margot, Henrik and Micheala have made their way to Ukraine along with Vlado Vancura, Deputy Chairman of the European Wilderness Society and Iryna Shchoka our local expert based in Uzhhorod, Ukraine.

Here is a brief summary of her experience:

The next place chosen to represent Carpathian Wilderness in new film after Slovakia is Zacharovanyy Kray Wilderness (Enchanted land Wilderness).

The team was first introduced to the local rangers and the place they would discover later on. The rangers and the Deputy director Ivan Shshyshkanynic, kindly took our team to the Zacharovanyy Kray Wilderness were lays a great fragment of old Beech forest. This forest is untouched by any kind of human activities and is only monitored from time to time by locals and international researchers. The guide informed us about longterm monitoring program implementation by German researchers studying bats and activities of the local forestry scientists.

They have also showed the different zones of the Zacharovanyy Kray Nature National Park divided in 4 parts : Core zones, Tourism Developed zone, Tourism Stationary zone and the Economy zone.

After a tasty traditional lunch prepared by the rangers, the team headed to the peat bog (Wilderness) where they could observe some dams recently made by Beavers. That peat bog used to be dried during the Soviet time and was restored a few years ago. Firstly, due to project which included machinery work but later on the restoration was overtaken by newly appeared beavers! On the way, we also had the great opportunity to observe several Carpathian Newts, flowers and the flora of such an exceptional biotope.
