First successful session of our Online Ranger Training

On Wednesday, we held the first successful session of our five-part online “Ranger training on Tourism and Waste management in Protected Areas”. We welcomed over 50 participants that learned about the role of park rangers.

This first session was about the history, role and duties of park rangers in protected areas. Park rangers play a crucial in informing visitors, managing infrastructure and enforcing rules.

In the first part of the session, our Deputy Chairman and Wilderness expert Vlado Vancura presented how the profession of a ranger has changed over time. Nowadays, park rangers cover a variety of tasks and their job profile can differ highly depending on the country and the type of protected area.

During the second part of the session, the participants were split up into smaller group to discuss different issues that park rangers face today. The four groups exchanged ideas on the role of rangers in tourism, law enforcement and nature conservation and how ranger trainings can be organized.

Since this was our first training session with registration, breakout rooms and longer breaks in between, not everything went perfectly smooth, but is was good start and we are confient that the next session will be even smoother and more successful.

We thank the European Outdoor Conservation Association for making this event possible and the Ukrainian Ministry of Environment for its support.

We are happy that the training course finally started and that we had a successful first session. We are sure that the next sessions are going to better even more successful.
