Global climate strike – Join us!

What started off as a one-man strike soon became a global movement. Millions of people follow the call of Greta Thunberg in protesting on the climate crisis. In the last months, people from all over the world gathered on the streets to request a stricter environmental legislation against climate change. This Friday, on the 20th of September, join us and other in a global mass strike taking place, exactly three days before the United Nations climate summit in New York. Whether it’s for half and hour or a whole day, don’t stay seated, join us on the streets!

What you need to know

About a year ago, lead by Greta Thunberg, thousands of students left the classrooms and started striking on the streets each Friday to demand urgent climate action. This sparked the global phenomenon, called Fridays for Future. To everyone’s surprise, the young generation, school children who are simply “too young to understand how the world really works” drew the line and started to take their future in their own hands. Why study, if there is no future due to our carelessness? Why emphasise the power of education, when the leaders of the world disregard the voice of the educated?

Greta Thunberg is currently in New York for the UN climate summit, where governments, the civil society, local authorities and other international organizations will come together to discuss and develop solutions in six topics: a global transition to renewable energy, sustainable infrastructures and cities, sustainable agriculture and management of forests and oceans, resilience and adaptation to climate change and moving towards a net zero economy. Now is the time to unite for this common cause, to join the protesting youth and show to the world leaders that people demand more efficient action on climate change!

One week for the Future

The climate strike will be a week long demonstration from 20-27th of September. You can easily find the nearest strike to you using the map of the Global climate strike website. Moreover, you can even sign up to organise a strike in your community. The European Wilderness Society will organise a climate strike on bike in the Lungau, to mobilize the local community to speak up about the climate emergency and demostrate low carbon travel.
