A press release published by Hannes Plackner representing Holzindustrie Schweighofer accepts the FSC probationary period of two months and announced to increase its transparency, review the land purchasing contracts and establish new guidelines aimed at eradicating sourcing of illegal cut logs.
Holzindustrie Schweighofer also states that it will enter into a discussion process with NGOs and the FSC to ensure future compliance.
Max Rossberg comments:
The world needs wood as a C02 neutral source of energy and building material. What we do not need is illegal logging in protected areas, shelterwood and clear cuttings and destruction of old growth forest. If Holzindustrie Schweighofer is interested in a sustainable business model supporting its own profits while protecting old growth forests and wilderness, we together with EEA, WWF, Euronatur, Agent Green, Greenpeace and other nature conservation societies are glad to help. But may I remind, that these steps must not only be true for Romania but also Ukraine, Russia and its other operations.
