The return of birds

The so called “Returning birds“ festival took place in Dzūkija National Park and Čepkeliai State Nature Reserve on the 28^th of March. Here comes a short report by Emilis Tamošiūnas, Chief specialist for information

The festival was opened by the famous Lithuanian naturalist Eugenijus Drobelis who presented the diverse and wonderful world of impellers.

Birds made of clay by ceramicist Rūta Indrašiūtė welcomed everyone who came to participate in the festival near the visitors centre in Marcinkonys.

After the presentation the participants went to hang bird houses in the educational trail called Girinis. The foresters from Varėna region helped to raise the nesting boxes. They also supplied the wood and knock the nesting boxes. After the work, the staff cooked porridge on the campfire to the participants of the festival.

We hope that from now on all the festival participants will be able to separate Finch and Golden eye, and the birds will settle in their new home.
