Wilderness Partners in Ukraine

Vlado Vancura European Wilderness Society Director for Wilderness Development and Valik Voloshyn, European Wilderness Society Focal Point for Protected Areas are this week in Ukraine visiting managers of several Protected Areas in Carpathian Mountains to develop partnerships and assess possibilities if protected areas in this part of Ukraine could join the European Wilderness Network.

In the last two day they met top managers of Carpathian Biosphere Reserve and Carpathian Natural Nature Park. They visited the most complex piece of potential Wilderness in whole Carpathian Mountains – Uholka in Carpathian Biosphere Reserve

The Carpathian Biosphere Reserve is one of the largest and most important protected areas in Ukraine. It was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 1992. Besides protecting the remaining patches of the original natural ecosystems, one of the most important objectives of the CBR is to provide access, albeit limited, for visitors and to enable them to see the enchanting beauty of this unspoiled natural area with their own eyes.

More about these parks and potential Wilderness can be read here:  http://cbr.nature.org.ua/main.ht and http://carpathian.land/en
