Today and tomorrow, our Wilderness experts are performing a Quick-Audit in the Austrian National Park Thayatal. Thayatal shares its borders with the Czech National Park Podyjí, where we find Podyjí Wilderness and Podyjí WILDRiver. These two Czech areas are already a partner in the European Wilderness Network. The Quick-Audit of Thayatal Wilderness and Thaya WILDRiver enables us to identify the potential for a transboundary Wilderness in the heart of Europe.

Here is already a preview of the beautiful Wilderness we came across today. We have gazed over the breathtaking Thaya valley and descended steep slippery slopes. We wandered through the deciduous forests that provide a home for boar, deer, and most noteworthy, the wildcat. The first impressions look very promising, and we look forward to explore another part of the National Park tomorrow.
We thank National Park Thayatal for the hospitality, support and interesting discussions. Also, special thanks go to Wolfgang and David for showing us Thayatal’s wildest places today!
