Climate change

Is it autumn in August?

From the crunch of leaves underfoot and the fiery foliage adorning the trees, you might be thinking autumn has come early. But ecologists can say, that this is another hint of climate in action. They call it “false autumn”, so you need to postpone your spicy pumpkin latte until the end of October.

Scientists warn that heatwave turn on survival mode for the trees, as a result leaves started to drop off or change the color to brown, yellow, orange.

It’s giving the appearance that we’re already in autumn, but the days are too long for those natural autumn processes to begin. Auburn leaves and early leaf fall are both signs that trees are stressed and “shutting up shop”.

According to Horticultural society research this year is the most harmful in terms of damage of trees in the countryside for the last 45 years.

If the start of calendar autumn will have a lot of rain, we might see another nature phenomenon called “a second spring”.

Other signs of the unpredictable weather can be seen in berries appearing on plants and shrubs. It says fruits and nuts are ripening faster than ever, which “can spell disaster for wildlife” that feed on them.

It’s hard to predict the long-term consequences of drought, but ecology experts think weeks of parched grasslands and rock-hard soil will be having a big impact on wildlife.
