Vlado Vancura profiled in the Sierra Club

In an article called: “The Return of Park Ranger Diplomacy – A National Park Service, Peace Corps collaboration helped conservation worldwide.” Vlado Vancura, Deputy Chairman of the European Wilderness Society, recalls the beginning of the Wilderness Movement in Europe supported by the United States Peace Corps. The article also highlights the decade old cooperation between the American Peace Corps and the National Park Service’s Office of International Affairs and how Europe´s National Parks like the Tatra National Park in Slovakia benefitted from this.

“If it wasn’t for the Americans,” he says, “we wouldn’t have thought to protect that.”
