ALFAwetlands in Action — New Trainings, Webinars, and Final Conference
As a proud communication and Austrian partner of the ALFAwetlands Horizon research project, European Wilderness Society, provides update on recent and upcoming project milestones for practitioners, policymakers, civil society and community stakeholders engaged in wetland conservation and restoration across Europe.
Co-Creation Online Training Course
In March 2026, ALFAwetlands is hosting a three-session online training course on inclusive processes for collaborative action, designed especially for practitioners involved in research sites, e.g. in Living Labs, participatory restoration, and stakeholder engagement.
What it covers:
- Session 1 (12 March): Setting up a Living Lab – foundations for collaborative science-practice partnerships.
- Session 2 (18 March): Bringing plural actors together – connecting institutions, citizens and stakeholders.
- Session 3 (26 March): Inclusive integrated strategies for action – developing pathways for real-world restoration.
Participants gain practical tools, hands-on group work and receive a certificate of attendance. The training is led by co-creation experts from University of Helsinki, Stockholm University and the Michael Succow Foundation, with organisational support from the European Wilderness Society.

Wetlands in Action Webinar Series
Since November 2025, ALFAwetlands, together with sister Horizon Europe projects RESTORE4Cs, REWET and WET HORIZONS, has been running the expert webinar series “Wetlands in Action”.
This cross-project series brings leading voices from European wetland science, innovation and policy together in bite-sized sessions featuring concise presentations and open discussion. Topics so far include:
- Tracking carbon and greenhouse gas dynamics in restored wetlands
- Engaging citizens in wetland conservation
- Data-driven wetland monitoring and rewetting impact assessment
- Remote sensing for wetland and peatland dynamics.
Each session provides insights into cutting-edge restoration science and practical approaches that support evidence-based decision-making and collaboration across research, policy and practice. Recordings of these sessions remain available for wider learning and uptake.
Save the Date: ALFAwetlands & REWET Final Conference
Looking ahead, the Final Conference of the ALFAwetlands and REWET projects will take place 17–18 September 2026 in Brussels. This joint event will bring together policymakers, researchers, practitioners and stakeholders from across Europe to:
- Showcase key project achievements and impacts
- Explore Living Labs and research sites
- Discuss contributions to the EU Nature Restoration Regulation
- Strengthen dialogue between science, policy and practical implementation
- Demonstrate tools and decision-support resources from ALFAwetlands and sister projects.
Field trips to Living and Open Labs will offer hands-on learning opportunities and facilitate cross-project exchange.
More details on programme and registration will be shared as the event approaches.
