Join Wetlands in Action webinar series!
European Wilderness Society, as communication and dissemination partner of the ALFAwetlands Horizon Europe project and webinars host, is glad to invite you to the webinar series “Wetlands in Action”!
ALFAwetlands, together with three other Horizon Europe Projects RESTORE4Cs, REWET, and WET HORIZONS and in cooperation with the European Chapter of the Society of Wetland Scientists launched “Wetlands in Action”, a dynamic series of expert-led webinars showcasing the latest in wetland science, innovation, and cross-project collaboration.
Running from November 2025 to April 2026, this unique webinar series brings together leading voices in European wetland research for a deep dive into cutting-edge developments in conservation, data collection, stakeholder engagement, sustainable management, and policy. Each of the up to 60-minute sessions will feature concise presentations followed by an open Q&A, creating a platform for meaningful exchange and networking among professionals across disciplines.
Session 1
Webinar Session 1 “Tracking Carbon and GHG Dynamics in Wetland Restoration” was a great success and highlighted cutting-edge research from the wetland community:
- Does Coastal Wetland Restoration Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions? Insights from six Restore4Cs case pilots
- · Greenhouse gas dynamics in Ylpässuo peatland after restoration (Finland) Findings from the REWET project

Session 2
Webinar Session 2 “From Perception to Action: Engaging Citizens in Wetland Restoration and Conservation“ will take place on December 16th, 11:00–12:00 CET. Expert speakers will contribute with:
- Valuing Wetland Restoration: A choice Experiment on Citizens´ Preferences Across Six EU countries”, Annika Tienhaara (ALFAwetlands)
- SOMER – A standardized instrument to gauge social acceptance of wetland conservation and restoration, Patrick Graf (REWET)
- From observation to restoration: citizen participation in WET HORIZONS, Lorenzo Pugliese (WET HORIZONS)
Next sessions will take place monthly in 2026 and will feature wetland mapping, remote sensing, policy instruments and more. Stay tuned for further updates.
About ALFAwetlands project
The ultimate goal of ALFAwetlands is to improve the geospatial knowledge base of wetlands, to evaluate the pathways of wetland restoration that incorporate a co-creation process, and to provide information and indicators for sustainability to maximise climate change mitigation, biodiversity and other benefits.
