Wilderness in Zacharovanyy Kray (Enchanted Land), Ukraine

Wilderness in Enchanted Land Nature Park, Ukraine got a legal protection in 2009. The total area of the Zacharovanyy Kray Park is 6101 hectares but Wilderness  creates only a small fragment of that. Nevertheless it is an excellent example that Wilderness is scattered throughout the variety of protected areas in Europe.

The enchanted Land Nature Nature Park is featured by significant biodiversity. Number of species are Red Listed but the most attractive Wilderness can be found  in sphagnum bog “Chorne Bahno” (Black bog) – botanical and hydrological natural monument of national importance and in the
beech virgin forests – spontaneously formed ecosystems, where different age groups and stand development phases are presented and remain untouched in Wilderness zone.
