Meeting with Holzindustrie Schweighofer

Today Hannes Plackner, Holzindustrie Schweighofer, and Max A E Rossberg, European Wilderness Society had a very open and productive two hour meeting discussing the difficult legal environment in Romania, the challenge to curb illegal logging wood shipments, the need for virgins forest and Wilderness in Romania, the important role wood plays in a modern economy and the need of a more transparent communication strategy. Follow-up meetings involving other NGOs are scheduled, in the meantime an regular active exchange of information was agreed upon.

Update

More than 1,5 year have past since the allegations, and revoking of the Schweighofer Group by the Forest Stewardship Council. European Wilderness Society interviewed the Head of Sustainability and Compliance to find out if the situation has improved since.
