Habitats and species in the EU

The European Environmental Agency published the conservation status of habitat types and species under the Article 17, Habitats Directive 92/43/EEC on 13 February 2015. The dataset covers the EU27 member states between the period of 2007 – 2012.

All Member States are requested by the Habitats Directive (1992) to monitor habitat types and species considered to be of Community interest. This information is interesting to see whether habitats and species are in a Favourable Conservation Status.

Due to the size of the dataset, our Society has not drawn yet any conclusions, but will look at closely to the status of large carnivores. Unfortunately the dataset does not provide information about the management practice of Natura 2000 sites, so calculating the inclusion of Wilderness areas within the network is not possible

See the dataset here and please note that you can also create visual maps of the various data!
