Italy first country to make climate change compulsory topic in schools
The Italian Minister of Education announced that the topic of climate change will become compulsory in Italian schools. Italy is thereby the first country in the world. Starting next academic year, all state schools will dedicate one hour per week to sustainability and climate change, as The Telegraph reports.

United Nations Sustainable Development Goals
The content of the classes will focus on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. This includes for example, how to mitigate climate change, protect life on land and in water, and create affordable and green energy.
It is for the first time that a country implements the United Nations agenda into an educative curriculum on national level. The Minister is also responding to the demands that protesters made during the recent Fridays for Future demonstrations.
Importance of youth education
The education of youth on environmental matters is very important. Through various activities, European Wilderness Society is also actively conducting youth education. For example in Ukraine, where the project ‘Don’t change Climate – Educate Youth’ was a big success already. Furthermore, in Austria the Let’s get Wild 1 & 2 projects engaged already more than 1 000 kids across the country!
