European Wilderness Society at National Park Hohe Tauern school festival in Salzburg.
Due to the great success of the program ‚national park comes to city kids’ from last year, the largest national park in middle Europe, austrians nationalpark Hahe Tauern and the public TV Station ORF repeated their cooperation also this year.
In the area around the TV station in the heart of the provincial capital of Salzburg, several stations with a broad variety of activities and information gave hundreds of city school kids the chance to inform themselves and interact with every topic.
Vice governor Dr. Astrid Rössler (Green Party) spent her time to visit the event and get an impression of how the kids took it on. National park director Dipl. Ing. Wolfgang Urban and ORF chef redakteur Gerd Schneider presented a book made by school kids called ‚Tierbuch Nationalpark Hohe Tauern’ (‚Animal book national park Hohe Tauern’).
The European Wilderness Society made the kids once more aware of the increasing importance of wild animals and Wilderness. Through tools like several props such as a wolf pelt, skulls and tracks, masks which the kids could make themselves a competition in jumping with different animals adn of course a loud Hoooowl!
It’s so important to reach the kids now, since they all will eventually grow up and take more or less important positions in the future society. „ Every even small activity in environmental education by the national park management is a great investment in the future of environmental protection of our country“, so Dr. Astrid Rössler
