The European Wilderness Society team visited the Director Jürgen Stein of the Königsbrücker Heide Wilderness Candidate area to inform themselves about the restoration activities in this former military training area. Dr. Stein informed Anni Henning and Max Rossberg, that they invested more than € 200,000 last year to silt the remaining dikes so that all rivers can now flow freely, that several old tank roads have been restored and that the removal of concrete has progressed quickly. In addition, Dr. Stein was able to exchange with the biographical process some of the Natura 2000 Intervention areas from the Wilderness Zone to the Transition Zone. This is an excellent method to fulfil the EU requirements while at the same time allowing natural dynamic processes.
