The story of the 1964 Wilderness Act—its birth, support, and challenges!
The Wilderness Act of 1964 was a milestone in the preservation of self-willed land in the United States and was a beacon for many other countries, including the European Union. The European Wilderness Society learned a lot from the principles and criteria used in the United States and adopted them to the European situation.

Pressure from the exploitative industries, misguided decisions making processes within the nature conservation movement and an influx of money is seriously threatening the underlying basic principles of the Wilderness Act. We in Europe are not immune to these developments and have similar cases already. This film is a reminder to always be on the watch for pressures to reduce the Wilderness protection from both outside groups and sometimes even the groups within who vowed to protect it in the first place.
Enjoy the film.
